Sahara Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of leading multinational energy conglomerate, Sahara Group, has announced Nigerian-American teen gender-activist Zuriel Oduwole as its brand ambassador.

Ms. Oduwole is widely recognised for pushing gender equality and initiatives that are aimed at empowering African girls through access to quality education and skills development and had previously partnered the foundation to host filmmaking sessions for 90 African girls in Ghana, Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire.

Country Manager for Sahara Energy, Tosin Etomi, in his remarks at a short ceremony to announce the deal applauded Zuriel for empowering girls across three African countries and equipping them with foundational skills.

He is confident that by partnering her the company can achieve its various efforts aimed at pushing realisation of the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

“She has changed the narratives, broken barriers and kept to her goal, and we are proud to have her as our female advocacy ambassador,” he added.

Manager of the Sahara Foundation, Oluseyi Ojurongbe, said the partnership with Zuriel has backed its quest to promote equitable and inclusive quality education for all – which are areas that she is already blazing the trail in.

“Empowering the youth, especially the girl child, is a goal that Sahara supports strongly and which has seen it rolling out a number of educational and training initiatives across Africa as a private business that is driving the sustainable development goals,” he said.

Zuriel Oduwole, commenting on the partnership, said: “Entering into this partnership with Sahara Foundation will avail to me a wide-range of help and support from the foundation; and through this, I hope to go further in teaching and empowering girls in the art of film-making”.
